BitArmor Honored with Computerworld Magazine Horizon Award for Advanced Data Encryption Technology

PITTSBURGH, PA, August 20, 2007 — IDG’s Computerworld, the premier source of IT industry news and analysis, today announced that it has selected BitArmor Systems, a leader in next-generation data security and data lifecycle management, as a recipient in its third annual Computerworld Horizon Awards Program for cutting-edge technologies. The BitArmor Security Suite™ was selected by an independent panel of senior IT executives.

BitArmor joins an elite group of organizations as a recipient of this year’s Horizon Award; other winners include Symantec, HP, and NEC Labs America, as well as advanced technology labs at colleges such as Stanford, Northwestern and USC. The winners are profiled in a special report in the latest edition of Computerworld, issued today. The Computerworld Horizon awards were established in 2005 to inform its readers of the most cutting-edge technologies that are “on the horizon” from research labs and privately held companies, such as BitArmor.

The BitArmor Security Suite gives firms an advanced way to secure and manage sensitive, confidential data throughout the organization. It ensures that sensitive data is encrypted and secured while in flight over any network, and when it is stored on any media, combining the advantages of classification, retention, encryption, authentication, automatic deletion and more into one solution.

“BitArmor joins a select group of organizations leading the industry in developing new technologies that will benefit enterprises in the future,” said Don Tennant, editor in chief of Computerworld. “The high caliber of submissions to this year’s Horizon Awards confirms that innovation and creativity continue to be driving forces in America’s economy. BitArmor joins a select group of innovators focused on bringing new thinking and solutions out of the lab and into the market.”

Introduced last year, the BitArmor Security Suite enables companies to protect sensitive data at every stage of its lifecycle. For instance, retailers use the solution to safeguard credit card data from initial capture at point-of-sale (POS) terminals until it is ultimately deleted. By doing so, BitArmor helps them and other companies comply with legislative and industry data security regulations.

Computerworld is the second IDG publication to honor BitArmor; last October, Network World magazine cited BitArmor as one of its “Top 10 Security Companies to Watch.”

“We are honored by Computerworld’s recognition of the importance of our approach to improving data security,” said Patrick McGregor, Ph.D., BitArmor’s Chief Executive Officer. “Increasingly, corporate executives are realizing that data must be protected and managed wherever the data moves or resides. BitArmor can provide businesses with a comprehensive security solution, and our inclusion in this year’s Horizon Awards attests to our leadership in this growing market segment.”
